I downloaded this game, since the commerical said "Free to Play". And yes it gave me free 7 days basic access with the ability to play the game in fullscreen mode. Basic access means you can only get 2 weapons, and you are limited to rank 2, limited skills can be learned, limited characters, limited everything, and can not buy cool items to "bling out" your pirate. After the 7 days, it's pretty much the same game, except you can now only play in window mode of 800x600 or 1024x768 with ads on the sides.

There's some pretty neat features, such as you can customize your pirate, from how tall, short, fat, skinny, size of your nose, length of your chin, color of your eyes, right down to nose imperfections. Can buy your own ship, and invite crew members (or join a crew) to go on high sea voyages, where you can sink other none-player ships for gold, trinkets and notoriety points. And you can be instantly teleported to each island (basic access only allows you to instantly teleport to the main island).

Create your pirate!

The gameplay is pretty much you do quests to advance through the game. It's not like WoW or FFXI at all. It's more like old school Sierra games like King's Quest or Quest for Glory, but in a MMORPG environment. It's addictive to a point, where if you're bored and you join a crew, you can pretty much go sink ships for hours and not get bored, but other than that, there's not that much more to do, except do quests, or level very slowly, there's no notorious monsters to camp or mobs you can farm for items.

I haven't really figured the whole game out yet and probably never will since I won't be upgrading my account.

Yo ho, yo ho a free basic pirates life fer me!
